The Difference Between Evidential and Trance Mediumship

Mediumship is not one single path. It unfolds in many forms, each offering its own gifts and healing. Two of the most profound expressions are evidential mediumship and trance mediumship.

Although they share the same purpose — to bridge the seen and unseen — they flow in very different ways.

Evidential Mediumship

Evidential mediumship is when a medium blends with Spirit to bring forward verifiable information: memories, personalities, names, details of shared experiences. It’s the kind of mediumship that proves beyond doubt that life continues after death.

For someone grieving, hearing their loved one’s essence described with clarity and accuracy can be profoundly healing. It reminds them that the bond of love is unbroken, and that Spirit is still present in their lives.

Trance Mediumship

Trance mediumship goes deeper into surrender. In this state, the medium allows Spirit to draw so near that their voice, wisdom, and energy flow directly through. Instead of about Spirit, you hear from Spirit.

Trance opens the door to timeless teachings, guidance for collective growth, and healing energy. It is not about evidence of survival, but rather the lived experience of Spirit speaking here and now.

Two Paths, One Purpose

Though different in expression, evidential and trance mediumship are not separate. They complement one another. One brings comfort through proof; the other brings wisdom through presence.
